RUBY FIELDS DEBUTS NEW TRACK AND REVEALS UPCOMING ALBUM WITH NATIONAL TOUR
Hailing from the suburbs of Sydney’s South Coast, singer, songwriter and modern-day storyteller, Ruby Fields, writes catchy indie-rock riffs and lyrics that are so self-aware and relatable that they cut deep. Her sophomore album, Small Achievements (out 24th April), expands on this signature sound with some deeper themes and grittier, guitar-driven production layered with raw, anthemic hooks and moments of stripped-back vulnerability, which she’ll perform live around the country this April and May.
Along with the album and tour news, the artist has debuted new single ‘Muscle’ which fans have eaten up since it premiered on Triple J across Aus last night.
Small Achievements at its core represents the last four years of Fields life in the NSW’s Northern Rivers, where she lived through COVID, intense floods, breakups, death, the band falling apart and picking up the pieces again, falling in love and connecting with the environment through the beauty of the local surrounds and community.
Following on from singles ‘92 Purebred’, ‘Half the Laugh’ and ‘Tacklebox’, Fields says of the album’s fourth single, “‘Muscle’ is an ode to my life in the Northern Rivers. The role of fear and of love in community and in the natural environment. I also know we have crocodiles in Australia, but you try rhyming crocodiles with indicators."
On the album title, Fields explains “Working at the Nudge (Billinudgel Hotel) between touring meant becoming a part of the family and getting to know Sharky – a beloved patron and piece of the furniture. When he received his Hole-in-1 trophy from the local golf course it was immediately displayed behind the bar. To me, that small gesture represents a place that celebrates everyone’s achievements, it doesn’t really matter how big or small they are, just how much they mean to you. So, I want this album to be a reminder to celebrate shit, because we tend to focus on the next big thing without reflecting on how much we’ve already achieved.”
Proudly presented by triple j, Ruby Fields will take Small Achievements on the road, performing songs from the album, as well as her much loved hits. Supported by Mac The Knife, Platonic Sex and Smol Fish, you can catch her in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Fremantle throughout April and May.
